A Few Tips For Chain Link Fence Repair

A chain link fence is a great way to keep young children and animals in your yard. However, if you do not keep it in good repair, you may find that someone has slipped out when you were not looking. It is important that you walk the entire fenceline to look for damage on a regular basis and take the time to do the repairs as soon as you notice a problem. Here are a few tips for making sure the work you do will be done as easily and efficiently as possible.

Know the Sizes

One of the most important things you are going to need to know before going to the hardware store for parts is the correct size of what needs to be replaced. Take a tape measure with you to determine the diameter of the top rail. Even if you do not need a new rail, you may need parts that will need to fit around or on it. In addition, make sure you know how long of a piece of chain link is needed. Be sure to add a few inches for weaving it into place. Getting a piece that is the exact size you need will not work well when you need to fit it into place.

Unbolt the Rail From the Corner

When you need to replace a piece of rail, regardless if it is the top or bottom rail, it is best to unbolt it from the corner post. This will allow you to move the rail while taking out the damaged piece and position the new piece in place. Trying to do it while it is still attached can result in a bad connection or you getting hurt while trying to force a piece into another one.

Use a Fence Puller

It is a common mistake to think you can replace a small piece of the mesh without using a fence puller.  Unfortunately, if you do this, you will end up with a sagging fence in a short time. Connect the new nesh to the fence and then use the fence puller to pull it taut to the next post.

As long as you stay on top of small repairs, making sure to clean up any rust or replacing damaged pieces, you should not have to worry about the integrity of your chain link fence. Take a walk with your pet or child, checking the fence and spending a bit of quality time with them. It will be well worth it.

About Me

Never Settle for a Home You Don't Love

My parents were barely "making ends meet" when I was a child, so we lived in a small home that they rarely upgraded. However, they were devoted parents and I cherish every memory made in that house. They were adamant that I go to college, and after I graduated, I was very lucky to land a good job quickly. After I bought my home, I had a few renovations performed to it to make it perfect for me. When the job was done I decided to pay it back to my parents for all they did for me as a child and have their kitchen remodeled. Once I can afford it, I want to help make a few more changes to their home. I have been researching and learning so much about home remodeling, I decided to start a blog to share my remodeling tips and experiences on!
